Confidentiality

How confidential is counselling?

I abide by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s (BACP) Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions and follow the code of ethics. Everything you say will be treated with the utmost respect and held in confidence. However, in rare circumstances there are exceptions, if a Court of Law requests this information, or I have reason to believe you or another may be at serious risk of harm, I would have to disclose this information. This is extremely rare and I would discuss the matter with you beforehand.

As a counsellor I am subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure. I receive regular supervision for my clinical work as it is a professional requirement. This is to ensure that I am working ethically in the client’s best interest. Complete anonymity is kept with clients and the focus of supervision is on my practice. I am also committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
